Magdalene Anene-Maidoh is a senior international development specialist with 20+ years of leadership in education policy, programme design, strategic planning, and multistakeholder coordination across West Africa. She has a proven record in supporting UNESCO, national governments, and global partners to strengthen education systems, improve teacher quality, and deliver high‑impact programmes in fragile contexts.
She worked in the Nigerian National Commission for UNESCO, heading the organization, as the Secretary-General, for more than 8 years. She became Director, Department of Educational Planning, Research and Development in 2016, a post she held until September 2017, when she retired after 35 years of meritorious service in the Federal Civil Service of Nigeria. She was Chairperson of the Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE), the clearing house for policy making in the country’s education sector from 2016-2017, a period when she initiated far reaching reforms for improving efficiency and effectiveness of the operations of the National Council on Education and its Secretariat.
From 2018 to 2025, she worked with UNESCO as an Individual Specialist in strategic partnerships and resource mobilization; programme development; and coordination of project implementation and partner engagement.
Magdalene Anene-Maidoh is currently a Freelance Consultant in Development, Public Policy & Education,advising on education reform, teacher development, policy implementation, and programme design. She is fluent in English and French, with deep expertise in gender, literacy, community engagement, and inclusive development.
